N° and MACHINERY MODEL EMPLOYED: 12 GHT 2000.P19 MEM Diemme® Filtration
In Antwerp Harbour, lots of sediment accumulates, equal to 600,000 tons of dry material, which caused a gradual decrease in depth with the consequent reduction in navigability.
Since a few years ago, the sediment, removed from the harbor by dredging, was disposed of in several ponds in an area called “the depositing site”.
The situation became very hard to handle for two reasons:
To find an appropriate solution to this problem many options have been taken into consideration since the 90’s, including lagooning, and mechanical dewatering by means of centrifuge, filter press or belt press.
They reached the conclusion, after detailed analysis, that the best solution was to dewater the sediment by means of filter press. This guaranteed a very high operational flexibility and low operating and investment costs.
Bilfinger Water Technologies, ahead of other filter press constructors demonstrated to be the most qualified partner for the development of the dewatering line, obtaining the job for 12 membrane filter presses Diemme® Filtration, model GHT 2000.P13, able to de water up 600,000 t/y of dry solids.
This has been possible thanks to the guarantees that Bilfinger Water Technologies provided in terms of production capacity and on-time delivery of such a high number of machines, respecting the restrictions set out by the project timetable.
