Experimental Work
Bilfinger Water Technologies’s laboratory has state-of-the-art equipment to analyze feed samples and obtain precise information to enable appropriate plant design.
A usual laboratory test includes analyses on:
CHARACTERIZATION OF SLUDGE OR SLURRY
A complete characterization of the product to be filtered is done using the newest analytical and instrument technologies in order to acquire the best chemico-physical knowledge of the product. This characterization is the first reference point for future contract guarantees and at the same time it is a great opportunity for the company and the customer to develop a dialogue and establish a long-lasting, collaborative relationship. The deep knowledge of the process and product allows the company to help the customer in understanding possible changes in either the product or the process (or both) over time and offers a steady guide for problem solving even after many years.
CHOICE OF CONDITIONERS AND CHEMICALS
hanks to Bilfinger Water Technologies' broad knowledge and experience of conditioning chemicals from a wide range of suppliers, and the use of specialized equipment, it is possible to select and optimize the most suitable conditioner and dosing rate for filtration of a particular sludge or slurry. he most suitable test filter is chosen to carry out the filtration tests according to the amount and quality of the product to be filtered, the needs of the customer and the parameters of the project:
laboratory pilot units with titanium wetted parts guarantee the best versatility to carry out any kind of test on a very small amount of product.

industrial pilot units, designed for a range of different application (from corrosion-resistant plants to plants designed for filtration pressures of up to 30 bar), carry out highly specific tests on large amounts of product.

These test units are always available in the laboratory at the head office in Lugo for tests in our own laboratory, or alternatively, ready to be dispatched for tests on site if preferred. This method enables our chemists and process engineers to simulate the performance of a full-scale plant to determine all the parameters that are needed to customize the filters press in the best way.
CHARACTERIZATION OF FILTRATE AND CAKE
The analysis of the quality and quantity of both filtrate and cake, once the filtration tests are over, completes the range of optimized parameters given to design engineers to develop the detailed specification for the full-scale filter (customization). During this phase, the techniques used allow the expert to monitor the efficiency of the cake washing system, monitoring a target element both in the solid (residue in the cake) and liquid phase (dissolved in the cake-washing solvent), through a single-element quantitative analysis.
