CLARION
Clarion is a candle filter designed for polishing applications. It is used to remove fine particles from liquid streams where the purity of the liquid is the most important aspect of the process.
Key features
- Maximum solid-liquid separation efficiency for purification applications
- Operational flexibility
- Modular and scalable architecture
- Vertical design to optimise volume and reduce footprint
- Filter modules made of polypropylene (or PVDF) for greater chemical resistance and reduced equipment weight
- Filter modules with a high specific surface area to increase filtration efficiency
- Operating pressures of up to 9 bar allow for filtering at high flow rates compared to competitors whilst maintaining the same footprint.
In increasingly demanding markets, such as those for critical minerals, lithium and battery recycling, the quality of the filtered liquid is fundamental. Clarion was developed to meet this need, offering high-efficiency solid-liquid separation, a compact vertical design, modularity and great operational flexibility.
Thanks to its lightweight, low-cost polypropylene (or PVDF) filter elements and a system designed to facilitate either wet or dry cake discharge at the end of the cycle, Clarion enables the production of highly pure liquids while optimising CAPEX, OPEX, and plant footprint. It is a scalable solution designed to grow alongside production requirements, from pilot testing to industrial implementation.
Furthermore, its fields of application range from the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors to water, food and beverage, and oil and gas.
Design features
- Back-pulse filter media reversal mechanism with the option to isolate individual modules to reduce air consumption
- High hydraulic capacity
- Fully sealed and watertight construction designed to operate at pressures of up to 9 bar
- Internal geometry designed to optimise solid suspension and facilitate cake discharge
- High thermal and chemical resistance
- Simplified mechanical design ensuring lower costs and easier maintenance
The operating cycle of the candle filter
Pre-coating (where necessary)
A preliminary recirculation process deposits a micro-filtering layer on the outer surface of the filter cloth before the slurry to be treated is introduced.
Filtration
The liquid, pumped under pressure, passes through the filter cloth covering the filter element and flows cleanly back up to the filtrate collector. The solids remain outside, forming an increasingly thick cake.
Washing
Once the cake has reached its maximum thickness, the feed is stopped and a washing liquid removes any valuable product residues or soluble impurities from the solid.
From this point onwards, there are two distinct discharge modes.
Dry discharge
The tank is emptied and the cake dried with compressed air; a counter-current pulse of gas causes it to detach and fall by gravity through the bottom valve.
Wet discharge
Without emptying or drying, the counter-current liquid and or gas detaches the solid, which disperses into the liquid at the bottom and exits as thickened slurry through a reduced-bore valve.
