A major mining company headquartered in Canada, with a plant in Central America specializing in gold and silver extraction, chose Diemme Filtration solutions to process its concentrates.
This collaboration involved the supply of two ME1200 filter presses in two phases, demonstrating the client’s trust in our systems.

Phase One: Supply of the First Filter Press

In 2014, the client installed an ME1200 filter press designed to process approximately 30 tpd of pyrite concentrates and address the challenges of an abrasive mining process.
The machine, configured with a reinforced frame and membrane plates, delivered excellent performance, achieving cake dryness of up to 87-90% with optimized cycle times.
The cycle time included cake squeezing and air-blowing systems, while the selected materials were resistant to abrasion.

Phase Two: A Second Filter to Increase Capacity

In 2017, satisfied with the performance of the first filter, the company decided to expand the plant’s capacity by installing a second ME1200 filter. This new machine was designed to be fully compatible with the existing system, utilizing improved components and replicating the proven layout.

Challenges and Results

Thanks to detailed laboratory tests conducted in 2013 and 2017, Diemme Filtration provided the client with tailored solutions. The results highlighted:

  • Filtration Optimization: Achieving the client’s target residual moisture.
  • Flexible Solutions: Designing systems compatible with future upgrades.
  • Operational Efficiency: Reducing cycle times and minimizing maintenance through the use of abrasion-resistant materials.

An additional key factor in the long-term success of these machines has been the client’s commitment to regular maintenance and careful handling of the equipment. Despite operating in a heavy-duty environment, the client’s diligence in preserving the filter presses has ensured their reliability and high performance over the years.

Conclusion

The collaboration with the client has been positive for both parties, and the cooperation continued with the later installation of the tailings dewatering system supplied by Diemme Filtration in 2021, including two filter presses, model GHT.2000, processing approximately 2500 tpd of dry solids.
The produced cake is now reused to fill the exhausted areas of the open-pit mine, demonstrating how innovation and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.
